Painless dental treatment

Many people are declining recommendation of any kind of dental treatment due to the fact that they are afraid of undergoing painful procedures. But dentistry has come a long way, and over the last few years, there have been many dental procedures that are being done painlessly. There are new ways to provide patients with relatively painless treatment.

For more complicated and invasive procedures such as biopsies, root canal treatment, nerve blocking and extraction of the wisdom tooth, anaesthetic injections are administered. This blocks the sensation to the nerves that are responsible for sending pain signals to the brain. Nerve blocking enables the dentists to numb the area temporarily and therefore they will be able to perform the procedure and the patient will be relaxed.

To eliminate the discomfort associated with injections, there will be an application of topical agents (numbing gel) to the tissues prior to the injection. This will help the patient to relax that will lead to reduction of pain, anxiety or fear due to having the injections

Another way to have painless dental treatment is through hypnodontics. It a form of hypnosis that will help the patient control the dental pain. There will be a combination of Nitrous Oxide and deep relaxation techniques to help the patients relax and eliminate anxiety. This is very much recommended for patients who do not want to be given much medication.

For multiple dental implants, dentists offer the use of sedation instead of local anaesthesia. Conscious sedation during dentistry provides a safe and effective way for patients to triumph over their fears and other dental issues so that they can undergo the treatment that really they need to maintain oral health and to avoid major dental problems.

If you are someone that constantly avoids undergoing any dental work due to strong fear or aversion to dental procedures, then you are not alone. There are many people like you who would rather endure the pain or the unsightly physical appearance of the teeth just so they will not have to get into the dentists' chair. But it is important to know that the longer you delay the treatment, the more damaged your teeth will be.

It is now very possible to get virtually painless treatment, so there is really no need to be afraid of the dentist. Even procedures such as root canals can now be non-traumatic. As an added benefit, sedation dentistry permits the patients to combine multiple procedures into one or two visits, this will save time and limit inconvenience.
